The best of all for me is from "South Pacific:"

"You've Got To Be Carefully Taught."

(And best wishes to your mom, my elementary & high school classmate.)

Looks like a concept for your next book. So much fertile ground to explore. How about South Pacific, cockeyed optimist and you've got to be carefully taught (to hate)?

Funny and true!

"I simply remember my favourite things and then I don't feel so bad," was pretty much drummed into me as a child! An earworm and a life lesson.

Ha! So true. (Though I have different favorite things than she does. Woolen mittens are itchy)

I'm curious if you believe in the "fake it till you make it" philosophy of Anna's. That by pretending to be brave, the courage will follow. I ask bc this approach didn't work for you in The Year of Living Biblically.

Thanks Anna! And tell me more! I felt it worked sometimes during that project. Maybe not 100 percent all the time, but I do find it helpful.

That's really great. I can't seem to fool myself into believing I'm brave, my body knows the whole time that irs terrified. 😅 But it fools other people, so that's something.

AJ - one of my favorite lines, and life philosophies from THE MUSIC MAN is when Harold Hill says to a crestfallen, Opie; "Kid, I always think there's a band."... I do think it's a great way to walk through life.

Of course, also, I'm partial as well to the enthusiastic use of my namesake Gary, Indiana.

Thanks Gary Indiana! And I'm so sorry I've been a bad correspondent. A lot of it is because I've been spending time with my mom, who wasn't feeling well.

Those musicals are the best kind of warm blanket. Fun fact: Mrs Partridge was my mother in law’s sister’s best friend.
